Next weekend Ill be participating in Trustus Theatres FEST 24, along with playwrights Dean Poynor, Sarah Hammond, Robbie Robertson and Michael Thomas Downey, in which well all be challenged to write a 10-minute play for four randomly assigned actors in 12 hours, at which point our scripts are handed over to one of five directors (Larry Hembree, Dewey Scott-Wiley, Elena Martínez-Vidal, Robert Richmond and Heather Leigh), each of whom will take their cast of 4 and scramble the remaining 12 hours to memorize those hot-off-the-printer scripts and fully stage each work for a public performance on Sunday night, August 24th, at 8:00! As you can well imagine, its a highly charged and exciting 24 hours of non-stop theatrical activity, and the results should be great fun. Unfortunately I will not be in Columbia to see the final products, but I do want full reports! Ill be writing my play from London, so Ill be getting my assignment at 1 a.m., which likely means Ill be writing a comedy as silliness descends upon me with a profound thwack in the wee hours of the morning. (Fortunately, BBC Queen Jo Loosemore will be on hand to be my dramaturg and cheerleader.) Friends and family in Columbia, please attend and applaud madly!
