No storm surges in Dimasalang town in Masbate -- medical doctor By Norman B. Tamar MASBATE, Dec. 8 (PNA) – To allay fears of relatives of Dimasalang residents who are living outside the town, a concerned citizen of the municipality told the Philippines News Agency that contrary to reports in a local radio based in Masbate City, there were no storm surges that happened in the municipality. Dr. Elpidio Lim, a private doctor in Dimasalang, clarified that storm surges had not happened in his hometown. Lim posted on his facebook yesterday that he recently had a communication with Barangay Chairman Perseus Cabalan of Barangay Canomay and confirmed that the report of storm surges in this village was not true. Earlier, a concerned citizen had sought confirmation on how true villages in Dimasalang town, among which is Barangay Canomay, was reportedly ravaged by storm surges that he could no longer contact his family in this town. Though recent reports were aired on television, social media and radios that Barangay Canomay was among those barangays with storm surge signals, typhoon Ruby did not bring any storm surge in the town, Lim claimed. He said the alleged report made by dyME radio station here and was picked up by the ABS-CBN news correspondent in the province was negative and just a speculation. Though the devastating typhoon Ruby spawned big waves and cut off power supply in this town, there was no such storm surges, the practicing physician added. Village officials led by Cabalan and some able-bodied males remained at the village to strictly implement preemptive measures and later sensed that storm surges had not really happened. No casualty has also been reported by the police station of the municipality. (PNA) CTB/FGS/NBT/CBD/
