Nobody does anything in America unless its perceived as a step up. - TopicsExpress

Nobody does anything in America unless its perceived as a step up. I was reminded of that comment, by author George Trow, this morning while reading about the tallest luxury residential building in the Western Hemisphere that was just completed in Manhattan/New York City. As per Mr. Trows comment: The building not only had to be luxurious, it had to be TALLER than anything surrounding it. This is symbolic of our unstoppable, and at all times encouraged (although with false hope, as the game is rigged), desire to step up (its units sell for a staggering 16 to 95million). Its also symbolic of our loose grasp on reality (i.e.; our planets changing weather) and of our worship of the wealthy. To build a residential building that tall in a city prone to hurricanes and other severe weather occurrences, of which we know more are on the way, does not speak of common sense. It does however speak volumes about our increasingly feudal-type system of peasants (i.e.; the working class) serving the wealthy, as only the destroyers of our economy (i.e.; the bankers and hedge fund managers who rule us) can afford to live in such a palatial dwelling. Thats where unpleasant, and often ignored, reality seeps in. Also, to build such an ostentatious structure on top of an ancient and crumbling infrastructure demonstrates where are heads are at, which is in the clouds. We are no different than any other empire in past history. All built glittering temples to dazzle the masses. All provided gladiator type amusements to keep the people entertained and distracted. Finally, all of them collapsed. Well just have to keep watching to see what happens next. In the meantime well keep building sky temples to keep people dreaming...
