North East Area Under 14 League Final - Navan 10pts Boyne 11pts This was the 4th final contested by this Boyne team which has to be a record in the history of the club. That they came out on top in this final following an epic battle with great rivals Navan, was just reward for a gruelling season which saw them play four finals in the space of two weeks. They have two trophies to show for their efforts at the end of this season which is a good return for the efforts of all concerned with the team. This was a game which demonstrated the strength of youth rugby in both clubs with very little separating these sides for the duration of the game. Boyne, once again held sway for long periods, but failed to translate this dominance into scores and once again almost conceded defeat when they conceded a try just before full time. The normally reliable Navan kicker failed with the conversion to give Boyne the narrowest of victories. Navan had the better of the exchanges in the first half and they scored the only try of the half on the 8th minute following a scrum on the Boyne line which they failed to convert. Boyne did respond with a penalty when Daniel Morgan slotted a kick on the 22nd minute to leave the score at half time Navan 5pts to Boynes 3pts. The 2nd half was a tensely fought out battle between the two sides with Navan being contained with brilliant Boyne defence keeping the Navan offensives scoreless. Another Boyne penalty on the 35th minute edged them in front by one point. It was captain fantastic & No 8, Colm Phillips, who brought Boyne back into the game with a fine try when he broke through and grounded the ball to take his sides lead to 11pts. They failed with the conversion. Navan were still making brave attempts to breach the Boyne defence and it was only a last gasp desperate tackle from Ethan Voss that prevented a try when Navan looked certain to score on the 52nd minute. The home side did manage to score with practically the last play of the game when they managed to break down a resilient Boyne defence after a sustained period of pressure, when they touched down for a try. This looked a match winner with the conversion to come and no time for the Boyne side to come back following the kick. However, Navan failed to convert the try and Boyne celebrated a fine victory. This team will now take a well earned rest for the summer before moving up to a higher age division next season when they will hope to continue on their winning ways.
