Novice and professional artists worked side by side Saturday to create both a mural and community connections at The Stewart House Urban Farm & Gardens, in a collaborative project that started germinating a year ago. Using acrylic paint, several dozen area students filled in the designs penciled on the side of a 40-foot by 12-foot metal storage container that houses materials for the urban farm and garden. The wavy structure of the metal container that served as the mural’s canvas “adds another element of playfulness,” said Jenni Groot, of Chicago, a member of Creative Initiatives for Public Space, a Chicago-based group founded by young women who graduated from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
