OKIGWE SENATE SEAT: UWAJUMOGU DECLARES INTEREST ...promises better life for Okigwe people. As race for the 2015 Okigwe senatorial seat hots up, the Speaker, Imo State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Uwajumogu, has formally declared his interest to represent the zone at the upper chambers of the National Assembly come 2015 on the platform of All Progressives Congress, APC. Addressing a mammoth crowd of party supporters, close friends across the zone and the general public, who thronged the headquarters of the Ihitte Uboma LGA for the occasion, the Speaker disclosed that the decision for throwing his hat into the contest was borne out the need to attract a better living condition for the Okigwe people. He decried the colossal lack of federal presence in the zone and attributed it to the lack of focused representation and the inability of the Okigwe people to elect experienced representatives who they could hold accountable for their mandate, stressing that past representatives from the zone had pursued their personal interests, as well as their godfathers, which according to him, were against the collective interests of the people of the zone. Rt. Hon. Uwajumogu, maintained that as the tested and an experienced lawmaker, who has gone beyond the frontiers of his primary constituency (Ihitte-Uboma) in attracting democracy dividends as well as, the empowerment of the people of the area into meaningful ventures, his elevation to the senate would further help in bettering the lots of Okigwe people, who according to him, were in dire need of purposeful representation. He promised to bring his experiences to bear in making sure that the geographical, agricultural and the economic potentials of the area are maximized to further boost employment opportunities, economic prosperity, youths empowerment, education, security, infrastructure and healthcare, as well as lobbying for the dredging of the popular Imo River which cuts across all the local governments in the zone to serve as irrigation dam to boost rice production and other agricultural purposes in the area, while also making the zone a tourist destination. The Speaker assured people of the Zone that his representation would adopt the usual open door policy which has characterized his reign as the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, adding that the welfare of the people of the zone would continue to remain uppermost in the discharge of his duties. He disclosed that his decision of joining politics was to correct the imbalances of the past, as well as helping the people to feel the impact of governance, while describing government as a viable channel of service to the people and never an avenue to further enrich oneself. Rt. Hon. Uwajumogu, also enjoined the people of the area to avail themselves the opportunity of registering during the forthcoming voter’s registration exercise, which according to him was the only legitimate means through which they can decide who governs or represents them. He further assured people of the zone that the Rescue Mission administration in the state was committed to their welfare, as plans have been concluded for the completion of all on-going projects in the zone and the initiation of new ones, while urging them to remain resolute and focused in their support to the state Governor, Owelle Rochas Okorocha and the All Progressives Congress, APC, in the state for more maximum benefits.
