OZONE LAYER PROFILE UPDATE: My homemade twilight photometer gives peak altitude of ozone layer mixing ratio of 32 km, very close to JPL lidar results for Nov 1995-2011. Measuring the ozone layer during twilight was first suggested by F. Volz in a 1962 paper devoted primarily to measuring aerosol layer profiles though the troposphere and stratosphere. So far a careful literature search has turned up no work on what Volz proposed until now. Im still getting very good results measuring aerosol layers. While the ozone results are qualitative, the peaks are consistently at 25-30 km. Key to this new project is using satellite imagery to make sure there are no clouds below the horizon along the solar azimuth path during the 45-60 minute observation sessions.
