October 9th would have been John Lennons 74th Happy Birthday, if some jerk hadnt murdered him when he was a mere forty years old and just beginning a kind of renaissance in his life and career. Many people have a favorite Beatle and goodness knows I love em all, but John was the one I made a past-time following studiously and listening to with unusual dedication. Many people were sad when he was killed, but I was angry. That was my reaction then and it is kind of Lennon-like, not to get too psychological about it, but as a steady fan and follower, I knew that we had all been robbed of a particularly special person in the Universe. You only get one John Lennon. I choose to celebrate his birthday, because I dont want to be angry anymore about his loss. I would rather see the big young strong weirdo sing You Cant Do That in front of a mob of screaming fans and remember why it was that I got all excited in the first place.
