Of course it’s good to read scriptures, philosophy and similar inspirational material. This broadens our perspective, gives us hope and to some extent enlightens our intellect. But it has been my experience and observation that no matter how many books you read or what level of book knowledge you acquire it all tends to remain at the superficial, cerebral level. Very little of this huge mass of spiritual information percolates down to the shop-floor level of living the rigors of daily life, and even less for some active, effective spiritual sadhana or practice. I always compare this situation to a surgeon who has read every available book on anatomy and surgery but has never held a scalpel in his hand. Guruji Naushir
