Ok, heres a story... why I never made it to Everest Base - TopicsExpress

Ok, heres a story... why I never made it to Everest Base Camp... It was Saturday, October 11 and my 15th day of trekking. As we headed up for our second big pass, Cho La, I was already thinking that maybe I was tired of long hikes at over 17,000 ft. elevations and maybe I would have more fun just relaxing in a village or two and getting to know the locals and fellow trekkers. The main reason was I was very tired of gasping for air while hiking, and I had already many great pictures of Everest and all the rest of the giants. Then on Cho La pass, almost at the top, I got disoriented and strayed off the path and ended up scrambling on rocks. It was terrible. Usually you can get a foot hold on a big rock but all of the rocks moved when I tried to get footing. I was on all fours and sliding slowly down a steep cliff and Nicole was trying to tell me to go to the left and get back on the path but I couldnt do it. Eventually her guide, Dibess came to my rescue and physically pulled me off the rocks and took my pack for me until I had got my shit together. At the last minute my own guide, Kiel came down and helped him carry me onto the trail. I had busted my right shins and bled a little on the trail. It was only a scratch but I feel tough looking at the bloodstains on my pants. I was a little shaken and a little embarrassed and after I finished the last 100 meters or so to the top, I sat and ate the last of my chocolate in silence. (continued below..)
