Ok...just for fun multiply 63X4 (without a calculator) Did you grab a piece of paper and line up the 3 with the 4, draw your big line and start multiplying? Can you multiply it in your head? Although Common Core math can seem cumbersome, it is teaching our kids to break things apart and put them back together using real mathematical properties. In our example you can break 63 into its parts 60+3. Now using the distributive property ,multiply the 4 times each number. 60X4 = 240 and 4X3= 12...now put them together 240+12= 252! Once you understand the structure of the problem you can solve it faster in your head than the time it takes you to get out your piece of paper ;)
