Okay, first off--please forgive me for posting a picture like this. Yall know I normally wouldnt, but theres a reason. Second--Im not a barrel racer. Never ridden in a rodeo. Dont plan to, since some tricks shouldnt be learned by old dogs. I ride and rescue horses. But this IS insulting to most of the young women I know in the Western equestrian community. Third--if they wanted to do a show about horses and attractive ladies, they need to spend some time with USERL or one of the other legitimate rescue groups. I do not mean create one of those dramatic PETA/HSUS promo programs, but a high quality show about what rescues go through, from start to finish. Show from loading a frightened, starved horse, either being seized from a drug house or surrendered by an owner whose world has fallen apart. Show the volunteers coming together, dealing with local authorities, working with people, trying to save an animal. Show people like Debbie Walsh Bartholomew trying to bridge a language and societal barrier in a bad neighborhood. Show the cold nights in the barn with a sick or dying horse, the begging for donations, and strong-backed neighbors whove never owned a horse but come out to help one thats down. Show the heartache when a critter like Shali dies, or the joy when a good horse goes to the perfect forever home. But hey--thats Hollywood, my friend Ryan Craig and Co. notwithstanding. Yall tell our friends at A&E to mind their manners.
