Okay, if you arent a literature person...ignore this post. All others; I need some input. Im thinking of PhD proposals (because I havent even written my MA dissertation yet, but thats just how I roll...), and I have two options to look at but no Google responses to guide me. Let me know which you think is more marketable as a research project: (1) Classic Greek mythologys influence on Native American mythology (particularly Choctaw as Im from MS). Since my MA is in Myth, Lit, and Unconscious, I thought this would be an interesting research question from what I know already about both mythologies. However, beyond basic psychoanalytic discussion of the trickster figure, Ive found nothing, so I dont know if it exists... (2) Hurricane Katrina as an event which has/will spawn a new mythical narrative for the Gulf Coast in the same way that certain historical events have caused narratives to be created in their wake as a way of dealing with the traumatic aftermath. Id love to do this, but again, I have NO IDEA where to begin. I have other ideas, but theyre a bit too Gen Y and probably wont be accepted as a PhD proposal (think video games as new transmission of mythology...along with their effects on myth, etc, etc). What do you think?
