On 11th Sept. we had the Melbourne premiere of Farmland not Gaslands, a film made by the same Gippsland crew as made Gippsland is Precious. They have updated and widened the scope of the first film, and it now looks at Western Victoria as well. We held it as a double feature with Gaslands 2, and I think it made for a very moving night (we had a sold out audience too!). I think Gasland 2 is an incredibly powerful film. Often we hear about the various stuff ups of the uncoventional gas industry in the abstract, and seeing the people who are living through this stuff, and hearing the various stories of corruption and cover up in America really brings home what were fighting to avoid. Anyway, after the success of last night I wondered if the alliance or one of the groups would be interested in holding a similar double feature film night in the west. I was thinking it may even be a good warm up for the Hamilton community a week or two before the forum? What do people think? I know there are various issues getting the legal go ahead for screenings of gasland 2 (it didnt get general release in Australia, Josh Fox says against his will) but we should be able to get a copy for cinemas/theatres down there. Let me know your thoughts. Quite a lot of positive response about this, so I think a few events could be good! Id say throughout early-mid October, so we can encourage people to attend the election forum. I am happy to spend a bit of time helping with organising, I can get you the films, posters and promotion materials and help with media so we would just need local groups to organise: venues booked people to do do postering and flyering help on the night.
