On Saturday, September 27th, the Bowmanville Zoo was host to a group from the Canadian National Institute for the Blind. The CNIB serves not only those who are completely blind, but also those who suffer partial vision loss. In recognition of those who might not be able to see our animals at all, one of our zookeepers prepared these touch-enhanced drawings of some of our animals so that these guests could feel the shape of our animals and be actively involved in the zoo experience as well. It was an honour to receive a Certificate of Appreciation from our friends at the CNIB, and we were even more excited to receive a touch map of our zoo that was made by some of the children that shows the different areas of the zoo in a manner that can be experienced using touch. Its really something else! It was a privilege for us to host this event, and we look forward to the return of the CNIB many more times in the future!
