On Tuesday the 30th Sept. a bill will be passed through the house - TopicsExpress

On Tuesday the 30th Sept. a bill will be passed through the house of representatives allowing our government to spy on our internet usage, to jail us without bail for even unknowing associations with suspected threats, and to give more powers to our security agencies. Security Agency staff will be immune from nearly all criminal and civil prosecution under the new laws. Dont let them take our privacy away. Everyone should have a right to basic privacy. It is as simple as this: In your own house, you shut the blinds so people cannot see you, you close the bathroom door because you expect to have privacy. We should have the same rights when making a phone call or browsing the web, but those places will no longer be safe. You would not let the government put a camera in your house, but so many seem fine to allow them to essentially do the same to our phone and internet. Under the new laws they only need one single warrant to monitor the entire internet. The new laws will allow whistle-blowers, journalists, lawyers, activists and anyone else who speaks out against government abuses to be jailed without bail. Under the new laws the Government will be able to criminalise travel to any part of the world it sees fit. In 2012 Tony Abbott said: “WE STAND FOR FREEDOM AND WILL BE FREEDOM’S BULWARK AGAINST THE ENCROACHMENTS OF AN UNWORTHY AND DISHONOURABLE GOVERNMENT” He is taking away our rights to do the very thing he claimed to stand for. Abbott is taking his plays from the same Neo-Conservative handbook we saw George W. Bush use to turn America into a police state post 9-11. He is using the exact same rhetoric of fear to justify giving his own government more power, and the people of Australia less. If this is concerning to you it should be. Please write to your member of parliament, you can find them here: aph.gov.au/Senators_and_Members/Members Let them know your concerns about the amendment bill (National Security Legislation Amendment Bill (No. 1) 2014) which is to be presented to the HoR this Tuesday. Sorry about the rant but it was important for me to raise awareness that the Australia we know is about to drastically change under these laws, please take a few minutes of your day to write to your MP.
