On Wednesday afternoon, Newcastle United submitted a 24-man squad for the first half of the 2013/14 Barclays Premier League season. Clubs had to provide a squad list containing no more than 17 players who do not fulfil the Home Grown Player (HGP) criteria. The remainder of the squad - up to a total of 25 players - must be Home Grown. A Home Grown Player means a player who, irrespective of his nationality or age, has been registered with any club affiliated to the Football Association or the Football Association of Wales for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons or 36 months prior to his 21st birthday (or the end of the season during which he turns 21). The Magpies have nine Home Grown Players - Shola Ameobi , Paul Dummett, Rob Elliot , Dan Gosling , Tim Krul , James Tavernier , Ryan Taylor , Steven Taylor and Mike Williamson . Changes to the squad list of 25 may be made during the period of a transfer window. Players born on or after January 1st 1992 are classed as under 21 players and are therefore eligible to feature throughout the season, despite not being named in the official 25-man squad.
