"On reflection, Simon felt nothing. During the stages of planning he had anticipated all manner of human emotions but now that it was over, now that he could evaluate the process, he was totally void of feeling. It came as a surprise to Simon who had expected to have to cope with grief, regret, remorse but he found the lack of emotion comforting. Simon had every detail meticulously planned, a characteristic he prided himself on and so far everything had run like clockwork yet he knew he was deviating from the schedule into dangerous territory with every passing second. He was fixed to the spot in fascination, wonder almost but he was compelled to stare at her. He noted every detail of her, the way her hair curled around her ear, the angle of her elbow, the 16 freckles that danced under the rim of her designer glasses. And the way that she was now perfectly still."
