On this Sunday morning, during a long run, the heavens initially - TopicsExpress

On this Sunday morning, during a long run, the heavens initially were a roiling and rippling sea of heavy, low lying dark gray clouds, remnants of the tropical downpours that swept through the area late last night and early this morning. But, as my journey progressed through the slumbering squares of Somerville, along a rustic bike path, through marshlands, around Spy Pond, and along the Mystic River, the gray clouds swirled and danced across the sky toward the distant eastern horizon, revealing occasional glimpses of light, clear blue patches and filtered, soft sunshine. In particular, around Spy Pond, as a light breeze, with a touch of both rawness and mugginess, gently rippled the ancient and timeless pond waters, the sun briefly pierced the gray, overcast heavens, and soft yellow sunlight streamed down from the heavens and bathed both the waters and the surrounding landscape with a light yellow glow. Earlier in the run, in a stretch of marshlands, a cardinal, with its vivid crimson and red plumage, soared through the damp, drizzly air, with the gray heavens in the high background, before disappearing into a tangled thicket of mottled yellow and green bushes. In the same stretch of marshlands, on a small pond, a lone white swan, regal and magnificent, gracefully glided across the waters. Later in the run, along the Mystic River, as a light drizzle fell even as filtered sunshine streamed through the gray cloud cover, fallen leaves adorned both the serene river waters and the fading and browning river banks as a few other leaves twirled through the air toward the muddy earth. And, as the miles passed and I moved through the moist landscape and damp air, I found myself smiling, enjoying the simple and primitive natural beauty surrounding me, and looking forward, with passion and enthusiasm, to the challenges and responsibilities of the day ahead.
