"One cause of higher Cesarean rates is the relatively recent increase in repeat Cesareans despite the fact that 70% of women who attempt a VBAC succeed. In addition to fear of failure, some women prefer a repeat Cesarean so they can schedule their baby’s delivery for a convenient and predictable time. Others do it because their provider recommends a repeat Cesarean over trial of labor. Some even avoid vaginal birth for “cosmetic” reasons! Meanwhile, the truth is this: In the absence of medical complications, vaginal birth is safer and healthier for mom and baby."
