One of my fellow heterotaxy mom friends shared this video with me. I hadnt seen it before. Its wonderful. It explains the difference between sympathy and empathy. When Samuel died I was all about sympathy. I was trying to find the silver lining in everything. I love how the video points out that empathic statements rarely if ever start out with the words at least... I also love how it says that a statement rarely fixes the problem. Letting someone know you see theyre in pain and you care for them and theyre not alone, thats what those who are suffering really need. Having Christian has really opened my eyes to the many who are suffering around me. Our struggles are all different, but that doesnt make them lesser. I am slowly learning how to connect with people in their sorrows and Im trying to learn how to let people know that theyre not alone. Its hard to accept that trials and pain are a part of this life, but they just are.
