One of the memories I cherish most with Zak was at our Senior - TopicsExpress

One of the memories I cherish most with Zak was at our Senior Awards Night. Our parents couldnt be there so we drove to Taft together and even sat by each other- a rare occurrence as most know! As twins, we were always in competition. It was a sign of weakness to show we cared for one another. Competition in school was no different and wed been betting on who would win the most scholarships for the last several months. Ironically, I helped Zak with most of his and he still got a 4.0. Cool. Anyways, this night was one of those rare times where we were really proud of each other and let it show. I stood up yelling and clapping louder than anyone in there. He made it less apparent but I could tell that he was proud of me too. After graduation, I went off to WSU and Zak ended up taking time to goof around in Hawaii. This was something that I truly admired about my brother. He would constantly prove that he was smart enough academically but he saw more to life than just what youre supposed to do....He wanted to LIVE. I cant thank him enough for instilling that in me. Of course, he came back from Hawaii, got a 4.0 his first quarter in college, then text me a picture of his transcript with choice words and was off on his latest adventure! It was his departure for this last adventure that would be the last time I would ever see him. We hugged with Juanny in between us and said goodbye. Over the next couple weeks we talked here and there and then our last conversation we ever had happened to be about scholarships. He wanted to know what he had to do to receive the award and I was overly eager to help, offering to write/fax everything for him. His last words to me were I can handle it. I dont think Ive ever really told anyone that last part but it makes me smile knowing there was competition till the very end...Neither of us would have wanted it any other way. Its a twin thing! So heres to year five of creating scholarships for Taft students in memory of Zak! I appreciate your donations more than you know :) Z-40 FOREVER!
