Open letter to Dr. Godwin Peter Aguiyi (Igbozurume Germany - TopicsExpress

Open letter to Dr. Godwin Peter Aguiyi (Igbozurume Germany e.v) For those who are following the happenings in Nigeria politics recently, we are now in a period of Open Letter season which was a failout of Obasanjo Open Letter to President Jonathan Goodluck early December last year. The “before its too late” Open letter became controversial with the manner former President lambasted his predecessor for wittingly leading Nigeria into a precipice, An allegation President Jonathan Goodluck has since debunked and in the process labelled Obasanjo a traitor and a threat to national security. And since then, many Nigerians has taken their turn to the social/print media to write Open Letters to political/business foes, even family members are not left out in this Open Letter scandal. Obasanjo infamous Open Letter attack to Goodluck Jonathan generated a lot of political tension across board, to the extent one of her daughters and a former senator Miss Iyabo Obasanjo joined the affray and wrote him Obasanjo his father equally an Open Letter style Fashion, admonishing him for being a liar, a deceitful person and vindicative human being. Well, I will leave Obasanjo Open Letter for another time. At the moment, My concerns are my immediate Igbozurume cultural group in Germany and hence are my own Open Letter to the Grand Patron Dr. Peter Godwin Aguiyi. Dear Eze Igbo Germany, As a loyal member of this prestigious organisation Igbozurume Germany, I have watched with keen interest the activities of Igbozurume Germany mainly since the controversial “Igbo World Conference” last year. And I regret to say Igbozurume Germany under your leadership has failed short of a clear bid to take the newly formed social/cultural Organisation to the next stage or at best to make known what you and your executives really wants to achieve with the newly formed organisation. In many occasions, I have instructively asked some pertinent question as to how can we operate an organisation without apparent constitution or a guideline that will dictate how we must operate as a group. I had asked this questions bearing in mind that for Igbozurume Germany to be functional a new constitution slightly different from the original home constitution has to be written. A sort of operating guidelines or handbook that will clearly reflect our status here as Diaspora community unlike the ones that governed igbozurume at home. In the process I have also suggested that instead of embarking on what would be a failed mission to hurriedly churn out Chieftaincy titles to people many of whom are in self-exiles in Germany, Some not even recognised in their native towns as title holders. It would have being better to allow the organisation an ample time in order to lay a solid foundation, build structures and make the necessary genuine grand work to reconcile with warring factions. My distaste and the subsequent letter has nothing to do with any individual member in Igbozurume who may want to be conferred with a title, as I have written in my other articles on Igbozurume there is nothing wrong with having an EZE or TITLE HOLDERS under Igbozurume context, but many things may go wrong if taking this titles are the only cardinal reason some people joined this organisation. My other concern is that Igbozurume Germany is a newly formed organisation, though it may have been operational few months early , nonetheless its official registration is still less than 6 months in Germany, making it a relatively new organisation that ordinarily would not be talking of titles when structure upon which such stools will stand has not been built. In view of the above aforementioned issues, I am perplexed how you our supposed Eze Igbo, leader and Patron, a custodian of our collective heritage would engage in this frivolous exercise at this early stage of Igbozurume cultural cum political group. I can vividly remember suggesting to you Eze Igbo at some point in your hotel room in Hamburg to disregard those calling for anything chieftaincy title at this point and rather concentrate first on issues such as Launching of the Almanac/Multi-Purpose Hall Appeal Fund, which are achievements no other African cultural group, organisation or association has reached. It is almost customary in communities in Igboland, associations or social clubs that those who are conferred with titles are known to have contributed immensely to the growth and progress of that community or organisation. Traditional titles are not taken because someone are known for his/her traditional attires, or that someone is loyal to organisation by mouth without his loyalty been tested for a period of time.. Sir, Imagine if those who are supposed to work hard for the progress of Igbozurume are conferred with unmerited titles at this early stage of the organisation, then who are the people to make the necessary sacrifice required to build a formidable organisation as we had anticipated, Or are you saying Igbozurume is all about empty titles taking ?. Let it be known that the controversy that greeted the formation of Igbozurume Germany eV and the debate about EZESHIP and TRADITIONAL titles in Igbozurume has just began as many would think we have come over it. The issues of culture, and tradition are at the heart of every Igbo man the merry mention of it whether Igbozurume member or (Onu-nga-onu ) sparks an immediate deliberation on how well these institutions are managed and preserved, and that’s why we the Igbozurume Germany e.v should be careful not send to wrong signal as people who would desecrate these traditional institution at will. If there is one lesson to learn from last year controversy, It is the zeal to which many Igbo’s in Germany wants to protect their traditional heritage and for that Igbozurume under your leadership should do the very best to protect and preserve these institution in order to avoid further unnecessary controversy and misinterpretation of a peoples culture. Lest we forget, if Igbozurume were to be sustained those who will inherit it will one day ask questions and I am sure the buck will stop at your desk to explain to others how come what a newly formed cultural organisation could do first after its formation was to confer chieftaincy titles holders to people whose profile betrays the very idea we are trying to espouse. Take for instance, the title of EZEUDO in Igbo land carry a significant meaning and responsibility. To many its one amongst the most prestigious title in our culture therefore it is rarely given out easily. The original EZEUDO in my imagination is a natural peace maker, tested and proven, someone who not only live a peaceful life style but also should be capable of administering peace where ever possible (unconditional)and not those that are not even Qualify to be a servant to any EZEUDO as my friend, Dr. Victor Otunba declared. A fit those who are presently clamouring to be crown EZEUDO probably have not considered. With all due respect sir, I make bold as a member and a regional leader of Igbozurume Germany Nord to suggest to you and your National Executives to halt any needless exercise at this point, and consider putting in-place first a concrete structure on the ground to buttress the many good wishes and aspiration you have clamoured, even cried out for; We can start by calling a must come National General meeting any time soon to dialogue on the way forward. Transforming an ordinary man into a title holder over night without any form of mental or psycological preparation is like forcing your subjects to drink bitter substances and that will amount to sin against humanity. Be warned, Be adviced and Be Prepared before its too late. Finally, let me use this opportunity to say Happy New year to you and all Igbozurume members in Germany. Hopefully my contribution will make sense to your leadership. ADAMS KENNEDY CHIDI (KC ADAMS)
