Our Mother Superior, string cheese smuggler, dive tender, and Roller Derby girl, Shirley Ann Stubbs, joyously went home to the angels, (at the age of 81 and ¾), while surrounded by her loving family and friends on October 28, 2014. She began her grand influence on the world on January 13, 1933 in Beverly, Massachusetts after being born to Harold and Dorothy Moore. During her formative years she was the perpetrator of various acts of mischief in and around Boston, MA alongside her siblings Sonny, Barb, and Marilyn. As a young teenager she moved to Spokane, WA where she completed her education and as a mere slip of a red -headed girl she caught the eye and captured the heart of the love of her life. For 37 years, 8 months, and 24 days, Robert Earl Stubbs Sr. made her life the picture of love and devotion while living in the Flathead Valley. During these far too few years together Bob and Shirley were blessed with three children, Bobby, Sandy, and Tammy that helped contribute to the usual rascality of their lives including a move to California, a stint as a Roller Derby girl, and mentoring a rag tag group of young garage band singers who went by the silly moniker of, The Beach Boys. Never one to let a moment be spent idle, Shirley filled the years she graced us with by volunteering with the Cayause Prairie School, (much her her childrens chagrin), teaching CPR and Advanced 1st Aid to countless students, sharing her artistic flare by teaching ceramics, and most important to her, helping care for the sick and injured at the original Kalispell Regional Hospital as a surgical tech and floor clerk. Though she carried on in most areas of her life appearing to be a mild mannered mother and wife she was a woman before her time and was in truth a closet adventurer, so under the guise of helping others she was an active member of the Flathead Search & Rescue for 30 years. This hobby allowed her to drive ambulances faster then she would normally have deemed safe in her little Ford Thunderbird, dash between half wild Indian Relay horses to help injured riders at the Northwest Montana Fair, and test the efficiency of Armour-All protectant for inflatable rafts, which was also quickly followed by the chance to partake in some semi-Artic diving maneuvers in Flathead River. A life filled with so many stories and love is bound to attract people if for nothing else that the entertainment factor it brings, but many people stayed past that and became as dear to her heart as her own children. This self-made family included Jan Kartheiser, David Mansir, Patrick Turner, Sue Dupont, Dave Pierce, Adam Funk, Alicia Fladager, Dj Jansky, Diane Goldizen, and the entire Aemisegger family, especially Her Donna. Shirley was excitedly received in Heaven by her parents, her brother, her adoring grandaughter Rainey, her cherished son, and most importantly, and assuredly most impatiently, her adoring Bob, or R.E. as she lovingly called him. With envious understanding and love Shirley is greatly missed by her sisters, her daughter and son-in-law Sandy and Gayden Mansir II, and daughter Tammy Hendrickson. Shirleys grandchildren Laurie Gariner, Amy Mansir, Jenny Reed, Alicia Nieves, Gayle Taves, Gayden Mansir III, David Hendrickson, and Robbie Stubbs will always and forever love her more. Blessed with 19 great-grandchildren, 1 great-great grandchildren, countless nieces and nephews, all her adopted family, and umpteen friends Shirley will be missed for the simple love and faith she brought to everything she did. Services will take place November 2, 2014 at 2:00pm in the gymnasium of the Deerpark Elementary School, Columbia Falls, MT, with a viewing from 1-1:45 P.M. There will be a potluck reception to follow. The family asks that all attendees forgo traditional memorial attire and instead request to please wear anything that Shirley would have enjoyed whether that should be uniforms, leathers, tutus, or crash helmets. In lieu of flowers please make donations to the Flathead Search & Rescue or to the childrens special needs cause of your choice. The family would also like to thank all the staff and personnel of the Immanual Luthern home for the love and care extended to Shirley and her family. Friends are invited to visit our website at buffalofh to leave notes of condolences for the family. Buffalo Hill Funeral Home and Crematory caring for the family.
