Our featured song at the Music Box today comes from the Ray Charles Singers. Born Charles Raymond Offenberg, September 13th, 1918 in Chicago, Illinois. He is a musician, singer, songwriter, vocal arranger, and conductor ... best known as the organizer and leader of the Ray Charles Singers. The singers were not a set group, but various performers, Charles would hook up, that he felt would be the best combination for a particular piece of work. The Ray Charles Singers, a name bestowed on them by Perry Como, while they were regular performers on his Radio show, and later his NBC Television program. Under the guidance of Charles, the singers began recording a number of albums. Some members were used as backing vocalists on some of Buddy Hollys last recordings. On a cruise in 1964, Charles heard a Mexican song, Cuando Calienta El Sol. He liked it and recorded it under the name Love Me With All Your Heart. The song became a hit, reaching #3 in Billboard, and #2 in the Cashbox survey.
