Over a 100 Pakistani mothers, living in the outskirts of Karachi, - TopicsExpress

Over a 100 Pakistani mothers, living in the outskirts of Karachi, Hyderabad and beyond, die from lack of antenatal care for high risk pregnancies. Over 1100 infants die from lack of antenatal care provided to these mothers. Indus Hospital, Civil Hospital and other major institutes in Karachi, want to launch a model program, to provide these women with transportation money to Karachi hospitals, and they want to place field medical teams that will provide surveillance to prevent these women from falling off the medical radar for care. Women with high risk pregnancies spend 200 rupees for transportation for a single visit and hence it turns out to be the first and last visit. We need your help to turn these dismal stats around for our women and infants. Care provided to women with high risk pregnancies in rural regions of Punjab, Baluchistan and NWFP is worse than Karachi, Sindh. Once this model is proven to be successful, the government and NGOs can be convinced to launch national programs and save precious lives. We need your help. Courtesy Dr. Sheerin Javed
