PATIENCE ON OUR FAITH JOURNEY: We all have probably heard the expression: “the patience of Job,” but do we really understand it? The book of Job is one of the most intriguing books in the Hebrew Bible. Job was a wealthy man living a blessed life. God allowed Satan to destroy Job’s family and livestock. Overnight Job was a childless man living in poverty. The focus of this book is Job’s series of dialogs culminating with his confrontational conversation with God Himself. Eventually Job gets the message: when we justify ourselves by claiming we do not deserve to experience devastating and catastrophic events and loss, we are condemning God and are accusing Him of being unjust. Through Job’s experiences, we learn valuable lessons about endurance and patience. We do not see the world as God does. Nor do we know what His plans are for us. We can only imagine what He has in plan for us. “For everything that was written in the past was written to teach us, so that through endurance and the encouragement of the Scriptures we might have hope.” ROMANS 15:4
