PCDP Banner Pima County Democratic Party Announces New Staff TUCSON – The Pima County Democratic Party this week added two new staff members as part of its continued efforts to elect strong Democratic candidates while providing necessary resources to the Democratic community and campaigns. Jason Ground comes aboard as Communications Director. His primary responsibilities will be to develop Party messaging and political strategy and maintain communications with local media organizations and between the Party and Clubs, Legislative Districts, professional and community organizations. He will also maintain daily social media communication. Ground is an Arizona native and veteran television journalist with more than a decade in newsrooms around Southern Arizona. He is a 1996 graduate of The University of Arizona with a Bachelor’s Degree in English Literature. “I am incredibly excited for the new challenge” Ground stated, “I am eager to do my part to help move Arizona and the Democratic Party forward.” Emily Verdugo will take the lead in community relations as Outreach Director. Her focus will be on reaching out to the diverse groups in the community with a strong focus on Latino and youth voters. Verdugo’s responsibilities will also expand into candidate relations and field strategy. Verdugo, also a native Arizonan, is a longtime party leader serving as Vice-Chair and Hispanic Caucus Chair of the Arizona Democratic Party and Second Vice-Chair of the Pinal County Democratic Party. Former Coolidge City Council Member and 2012 Democratic candidate for the Arizona House of Representatives, Verdugo brings vast insight into the needs of both the 2013 and 2014 election. She has Bachelor’s Degrees in Political Science and History from Arizona State University and a Master’s Degree in Management from Northern Arizona University. Returning to Pima County after over a decade around Arizona, Verdugo says she is “looking forward to working together with the richly diverse and multicultural communities that are the heart and soul of Pima County.” “This is an exciting time here at the Party. We are bringing on two remarkable team members at a pivotal time in Arizona politics” said the chair of the Pima County Democratic Party, Don Jorgensen. “The Democratic Party has the momentum and superlative candidates to make great strides in 2014 towards turning Arizona blue.”
