PDP will ally with secular forces: Mehbooba ‘ Kashmir is a human issue’ YogeSh Sagotra Jammu, July 14: Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP), President Mehbooba Mufti on Sunday said that her party would consider alliance with secular forces ‘ if required’ after 2014 elections “ for the betterment of Jammu and Kashmir State”. “ For peace, tranquility and stability in Jammu and Kashmir, PDP has decided to go for an alliance with political parties having secular credentials, if required”, she told media persons on the sidelines of a party function here. However, she claimed that with tremendous public support, the party was also confident that it would emerge as the single largest party and form next government on its own. Commenting on the recent statement of her father, Mufti Muhammad Sayeed that Kashmir was not an international dispute, Mehbooba Mufti said that Kashmir is neither a national nor international but a human issue where common people continue to suffer from past sixty- six years. “ Power greedy National Conference and New Delhi always exploited the people of Jammu and Kashmir for their own benefits. The people of the state suffered a lot due to bad governance, they were divided on region and religion basis in NC regime, so its not a national or international issue, it’s a human issue and shall be addressed with humanitarian approach,” she said. She claimed that during its regime, PDP ensured that Kashmir problem was solved through talks and it was due to its efforts that Kashmiri people welcomed then Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi with open arms in Kashmir. She said but now recently when same Prime Minister and UPA Chairperson came here, Kashmir was placed under curfew and they were taken to Banihal ( Jammu region) for inauguration of rail link.” She said, “ We reckon Kashmir as a dispute between India and Pakistan only solution lies within dialogue.” Responding to the points as whether the PDP stands for self rule, dual currency and free Economic zone, she said that her party still believes that Jammu and Kashmir would become a model state in the South Asian Sub- continent as if Government of India allows Iran gas pipe line via Leh- Kargil, and trade through conventional routes of Jammu and Kashmir with other South Asian countries like Afghanistan. Earlier, while addressing a gathering she lambasted the state government for its “ failure to provide basic amenities to the people of state. “ It was unfortunate that NC leadership, after having failed in fulfilling all their promises of good governance and development, have reverted to their old tactics of raising hollow slogans which have lost meaning in the changed context”, the PDP president said.
