PHILIPPINE AMBASSADOR MEETS FILIPINO COMMUNITY IN SEOUL 04 June 2014 - Philippine Ambassador to South Korea Raul S. Hernandez kicks off his assignment in Seoul by meeting the Filipino community at the Hyewadong Catholic Church where about 1,500 Filipinos congregate regularly for the Sunday Catholic Mass last June 1. Ambassador Hernandez was introduced to the community by Fr. Alvin Parantar, MSP and Engr. Jimmy Villaflor, the Chaplain and President, respectively, of the Hyewadong Filipino Catholic Community. “The Philippine government, through the Philippine Embassy, and the Filipino community are partners in promoting the interests of the Philippines in South Korea. Let us work together to strengthen this special relationship between the Hyewadong Filipino Community and the Philippine Embassy so we can all help the Filipinos in South Korea”, said Ambassador Hernandez. There are about 48,000 Filipinos residing in South Korea. “Should you have problems that you wish to bring to our attention, the Philippine Embassy is always ready to help you”, the Ambassador added. Following the Mass, Ambassador Hernandez went to “Little Manila”, the Philippine open market nearby where a wide range of goods imported from the Philippines are sold every Sunday.Favorite Filipino cuisine such as adobo, dinuguan, pancit and lumpia are also offered, not only to the delight of the Filipino churchgoers but to the Koreans and foreign tourists alike. Little Manila has become a feature in the tourism landscape of Seoul. END
