PHILLY CHEESE STEAK WITH PEPPER JACK SAUCE AND GARLIC MAYO: [Submitted by Mike Burke] The result was this new twisted Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich. Total Time: 1 Hour Servings: 4-5 GARLIC MAYO: It’s a good idea to make the garlic mayo first, so it can sit a bit in the refrigerator. If you really like to slather your sandwiches, then be a little more liberal with the mayo. INGREDIENTS: •1-1/2 Cup Mayo •2 cloves garlic or 2 tbsp minced garlic •1 tbsp crushed black pepper WHAT TO DO: Just mix it all in a small bowl. It’s really simple and easy to adjust to your particular tastes. PEPPER JACK SAUCE: The pepper jack sauce is another easy addition to sandwich. As I said earlier, I love pepper jack, so by adding a larger amount creates a cheesier, thicker sauce. Because it only takes about 5 minutes to make, I would suggest starting this while the meat and veggies are finishing up. That way, everything is finished around the same time. INGREDIENTS: •2 tbsp butter •2 tbsp flour •1-1/2 cups milk •1 cup grated pepper jack cheese WHAT TO DO: 1.Melt butter in a sauce pan, then stir in flour and cook for 1 minute 2.Add milk and whisk until boils 3. Turn off heat and add cheese, stir until melted STEAK AND VEGGIES: There are a couple of things to note about the steak and veggies before you start. As the recipe stands, it is heavy on peppers and onions, because my wife really likes them, and I tend to buy more peppers than I need. So, if you want a meatier, or at least less overall, just reduce the number of peppers to 1 or 2 and the onions to 1. Additionally, if you like yours a little spicier, add a jalapeno or two. You also want to get the steak cut as thin as you can. INGREDIENTS: •1kg steak, cut into thin strips •2 small onions •1 cup fresh, sliced mushrooms •3 peppers (Green/Red/Yellow) •2 tbsp olive oil •Salt and Pepper to taste WHAT TO DO: 1.Heat oil in large skillet 2.Sauté steak until lightly browned 3.Stir in pepper, onions, and mushrooms, and season with salt and pepper 4.Sauté until veggies are tender 5.Remove from heat FINISHING TOUCHES: Finally, to finish off the sandwiches, I would suggest using fresh hoagies. Cut the rolls almost all of the way through, leaving them connected, and lightly brush the inside with olive oil. You can also lightly sprinkle with garlic salt. Once the oil has been applied, grill the bread facing down on a grill or in a pan. The best way is to use a George Foreman Grill, because you can toast both sides at once. After the hoagies are toasted, spread the garlic mayo on both sides, and fill with the steak and veggies. Finally, top it all off with the hot pepper jack sauce. Make sure you have plenty of napkins, and enjoy. :)
