POSTPONED. Terribly Disappointed. Here is announcement from Parks Canada I would like to thank you for your support with this project and please be advised that we have postponed the HSMBC Charlotte Small Thompson plaque installation/ceremony until our next operating season. The Banff Field Unit will be making the recommendation to the Minister’s office that the ceremony be scheduled for Canada Day, July 1, 2014. Until we receive official confirmation from the Ministers office July 1st is just a tentative date, but there are numerous reasons why it is a favourable date for this very important event. Canada Day is one of the highest profile events at the NHS and we are confident that we can build a large audience for the ceremony. As well, July 2014 is far enough out it gives the us ample time to work with the Confluence Heritage Society, the Métis Local 845, designation proponents, the County of Clearwater and the Town of Rocky Mountain House to plan an event that is of suitable scope and scale to the ceremony. We can look forward to celebrating Charlotte Small and her legacy as a woman of the fur trade in the west and an able and capable partner of David Thompson, one of the greatest map makers the world has ever known. I look forward to working with all of you this winter to ensure a successful event.
