PRIORITIZING THE MUNDANE(part 1)....... I have been deeply motivated to give my opinion on d incessant issues dat seem to b enjoyable by d current flocks of d so called modern youths, particularly d female folks. My heart boils with tears almost running down my face when i think or imagine d kind of future we wil find ourselves in 3 decades to come. Prior to d emmergence of d medievial political thought, one of d leading figures of d classical period, plato, gave his idea of d philosohper king i.e sum1 who has gone thru d rigorous process of academic tussle, to be d one to take d responsiblity of leading a state or nation. My point is dat, there were people who were highly motivated to study and study. But in dis modern world, particulary in nigeria, academics is becoming a barrier to peoples success expecially d youths. Different irrelevant activities have taken over. Example; I was going thru a post on facebook d other day in whch a student dat won a beauty pageant was rewarded with a brand new Toyota car while a fellow student dat was outstanding in an inter school competition was rewarded with a mini laptop for her brilliance. My people, what does dis speaks of? Some tym ago while i was stil an undergraduate student of d great UNIBEN, there was a news dat face 2 (sorry, Tuface)was to visit d school. D news was met with a wild euphoria and some gals even colapsed during d event. In dat same year, a popular nobel laurate, Prof. Wole Soyinka visited d school and his coming was met with utmost disregard and quietness. What realy motivated me to write dis post is d soon to be held ITV HOT LEG COMPETITION . Wit a vehement brainstorming, i tried to find out what dis means but all my effort has amounted to chasing d wildgoose. Funny enof, d reward for dis mundane competition is a brand new car with some cash addition. If dis trend continues like dis, when our old leaders finally depart, only God knows what d future leaders will do. D worst part is dat, students spend huge amount of money to participate in dez events where as they cannot spend a dine on books and end up accusing lecturers for thier failure. Although, dez did not just emmerge, d nigeria state could b regarded as being d root cause of d trend. D elites are insincere to securing d future of d nigerian students and also fail to make provision for graduates. My opinion here is dat, d state should not limit our quest for knowledge and research. All sectors need to be balanced so as to ensure sectorial equality. Dis is not to say dat entertainment is not good, infact, it is essencial for social development but lets try and maintain a balance in all we do. Education is infact d main key and to me, it should take utmost priority rada dan prioritizing things dat will not increase our mental strenght. Thanks for reading.
