Pairwork activity is a very useful and efficient way of work in the English classroom. It is simple to organise and easy to explain, and group work should not be attempted before the children are used to working in pairs first. Let kids who are sitting near each other work together. Dont move desks -- and chairs should only be moved if necessary. Paiwork means everyone in the classroom is occupied, but even if everyone in the class is working on the same thing, not all pairs will finish at the same time. Also be on the lookout for kids who simply do not like each other it is unlikely that they will work well together. This is more of a problem with eight to ten year olds than it is with five to seven year olds. Go through what you want kids to do before you put them into their pairs.
