Paleo diet: caveman food from Naturally Good Food: The Paleo diet, or as it is sometimes called, the ‘caveman diet’, is basically designed to recreate the hunter-gatherer diet of our Paleolithic ancestors, at a time before settled agriculture. The fundamental idea is that our bodies have not changed in 10,000 years, and that we are ill-adapted to our modern diets, which tend to contain large amounts of grains and dairy products. The Paleo diet thus shuns agricultural products, such as grains, dairy produce, legumes (lentils and beans), refined sugar and processed oils. There is considerable disagreement among food experts as to whether the Paleo diet is historically accurate – and also if it is a ‘good’ diet, as it misses out many food groups. At Naturally Good Food, we don’t think we are the right people to pass judgement on whether it’s a good diet or not – although clearly the intention to eliminate processed and refined food is something we agree with. However, what we can say with certainty, is that if you are following a Paleo diet, Naturally Good Food has some great, natural, organic, unprocessed foods, to tempt the most basic of cave-dwellers! These include, in our nuts/seeds and vegetable oil sections: Almonds - organic and non-organic, from 125g to 25kg, and all sizes inbetween Cashews Hazelnuts Macadamia nuts Pecans Pine nuts Pumpkin seeds Sunflower seeds Walnuts Avocado oil Coconut oil Macadamia oil Olive oil The above is only a fraction of the wholefoods we stock.
