Parenting heads up #2,684: Domino Rule When making a rule make sure you are aware of the possibility of it being a dreaded Domino Rule. For instance: No more t.v. on Sunday mornings. You can read or relax. If you make such a mandate inevitably you will have to make at the minimum of 5 more rules. Like, No running around playing tag waking those sleeping up. Or No hitting those who ruin your fort. Which also reminds me, No eating in the fort because the fort is STILL technically the living room. Oh and, You MUST clean up your own fort mess. And dont forget, Even if you had shared chairs to build your forts you need to work together to clean it up. And remember, No watching t.v. in a fort (there is no difference because you added a fort). I think you can see setting such a lofty standard doesnt do anyone any good. Domino rules not only make living miserable but are exhausting coming up with all the consequences that are associated with each rule broken and praise for those observed. Might I suggest a rule like this: You MUST watch tv like a zombie EVERY Sunday morning while celebrating me spoiling you by allowing you to eat your Go-gurt on the couch. See how easy that was?
