Paris shootings: tributes to Ahmed Merabet, the smiling Muslim policeman who was gunned down in cold blood Ahmed Merabet, who was married with two children, described by friends as straightforward, modest, super kind and adorable To the traders of the Rue de Lappe, Ahmed Merabet was the smiling policeman who popped in for a drink and a chat after hours every weekend. But on Wednesday, they saw their friend sprawled in the street, begging for mercy moments before he was shot in the head at point blank range. Mr Merabet, a Muslim, was killed outside the Charlie Hebdo office during Wednesdays massacre. Footage from the attack showed the officer lying wounded on the pavement. As the gunmen moved closer, the 42-year-old was seen raising his hand before reportedly asking: Do you want to kill me? The gunman is said to have replied: OK chief before shooting him in the head at point blank range and escaping. Mr Merabet was married with two children and had recently been promoted. On Thursday, friends said he had dedicated his life to improving his community.
