Pastor Gregory L. Spurlock 3-16-14 Text: John 4:39-42 Subject: The Real Deal When it comes to their faith and worship encounter, folk want the real deal experience. · All of us, as children of the Most High, have the responsibility to be ministers of the Gospel. · Jesus had a “must-ness” about His ministry. And he must needs go through Samaria. John 4:4 Jesus let the woman know that I am the real deal. “[W]hoever drinks of the water that I shall give him will never thirst …” Can’t nobody do [for] you like what I can do [for] you. · Worship is about being in the Spirit. God is spirit, and His worshipers must worship in the Spirit and in truth. John 4:24 · The Real Deal – Jesus is the best thing that ever happened to you. · There is a difference between having faith and having the gift of faith. The “Real Deal” suggests to us three things: 1. The Woman. Many of the Samaritans of that city believed in Him because of the word of the woman who testified. [39] How can this woman be someone to lead others to Christ? The ones who do nothing don’t have any power to lead. But the ones who have been through hell, name scandalized, marked for dead are the individuals whom God can use. Moses killed a man but God used him; David cheated with Bathsheba and set up her husband, but is considered to be a man after God’s own heart; Saul killed a whole lot of Christians, but became Paul and wrote over half of the New Testament. The woman is representative of every last one of us. With all your baggage, God can still use you. 2. The Witness. A modern day definition of witnessing -- conveying the biblical truth about our Savior to lead people to Christ who can transform their lives despite where they have come from. We are overcomers by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of our testimony. We must witness in Spirit and in truth. The woman then left her waterpot, went her way into the city, and said to the men, “Come, see a Man who told me all things that I ever did. Could this be the Christ?” John 4:28-29 3. The Word. Many Samaritans believed in Him because of the word. In today’s society, many don’t want to take the word for what it is worth. The word makes a difference in our life. In Genesis, God spoke and it became. The word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my pathway.
