Pastor Mikes Daily Devotion Friday January 17, 2014 Matthew 12:9–10, Now when He had departed from there, He went into their synagogue. And behold, there was a man who had a withered hand. And they asked Him, saying, “Is it lawful to heal on the Sabbath?”—that they might accuse Him. It has been a while, but one day I was at Home Depot and in a hurry. Upon check out I found the cash register with the shortest line. When I got to the front, after unloading my basket, the person behind me smiles and asks me if I realize that I am in the ten items or less line. I did not, and apologized as I was way over ten items and had been a little legalistic in the past about other people who violated the ten items or less law. She then noticed that I had a shirt on that had the name of our church on it and asked who the pastor was there. I told her I was, repented and came clean and she forgave me. She told me that she was also a Christian and went to a church that I know teaches the word of God. The neat thing about her was; the person was the priority and not the wrong done to her. Lets look at your mindset when coming to church in order to illustrate todays verses. When you come to church, are you always looking for fault, or is it to find fruit? Both fault and fruit exist at our church, because we are a congregation of imperfect people who are saved by grace. The Pharisees were looking for a fault, and could not see the hurting people before them. Because of this, they were constantly frustrated. This mindset has the potential to keep those who need what the Lord has to offer them from ever receiving it. Those who are fruit finders see the work that the Lord is doing and rejoice. They are producing fruit themselves, and are able to partake of the fruit of others. The fruit here is what God does through His people for the benefit of others. Legalism kills, but grace gives life. Be a distributer of grace to the people in your life and see what God will do. James 2:13, For judgment is without mercy to the one who has shown no mercy. Mercy triumphs over judgment.
