Paul gives us a wakeup call in this chapter. There is no excuse for sin. Ever. Paul stresses that in Romans 6. He starts off in Romans 6:1-2 What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? (2) God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? Saints we are DEAD to sin! Why then do we CONTINUE in sin? We all have choices, and the choices we make have consequences good or bad. Sure we all know that as long as we live this physical mortal life we will fail, but we should know better and realize when we fail we do not ignore it and move on. We need to repent to God and make things right not only with Him but with ourselves and others. Paul says in Romans 6:6-9 Knowing this, that our old man is crucified with him, that the body of sin might be destroyed, that henceforth WE SHOULD NOT SERVE SIN. (7) FOR HE THAT IS DEAD IS FREED FROM SIN. (8) Now if we be dead with Christ, we believe that we shall also live with him: (9) Knowing that Christ being raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him. We all need to stop and take a look at our hearts and ask ourselves WHO are we serving? Realizing WHO we are serving will do one of two things, CONVICT us to CHANGE or ENCOURAGE us to do MORE! If we are “claimed” born-again believers and we are living like the world, partying it up and living in sin from everything under the sun. WAKEUP! Consequences for our actions are coming! The Bible says in Hebrews 12:6-8 For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth. (7) If ye endure chastening, God dealeth with you as with sons; for what son is he whom the father chasteneth not? (8) But if ye be without chastisement, whereof all are partakers, then are ye bastards, and not sons. Are you being chastened by the Lord or are you living like the Lord and have had no chastisement? Because if you have had no chastisement, guess what, you are considered a bastard. That means you are FATHERLESS. To break it down even more simpler terms, YOU ARE NOT SAVED! This is a dangerous place to be in THINKING we are saved and in REALITY we are bastards! Paul continues on in Romans 6:12-14 Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. (13) Neither yield ye your members as instruments of unrighteousness unto sin: but yield yourselves unto God, as those that are alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness unto God. (14) For sin shall not have dominion over you: for ye are not under the law, but under grace. Don’t live in this PHYSICAL world in SIN! Not only does it damage YOUR reputation but damages GODs and HIS Gospel! We need to stop justifying SIN and saying “Oh Well, I am not perfect” and start REPENTING of our SINS DAILY and making every effort to do what is right FIRST not to get to Heaven, NOT to get brownie points from the LORD. That is RELIGION. But because we FEAR (Reverence) the LORD! Does anyone here like to be punished for doing something wrong? Of course not! Then we need to stop cease and desist what we are involved in whatever it is and repent. Paul reminds us in Romans 6:20-23 For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness. (21) What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death. (22) But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. (23) For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Saints let’s make things right and become SERVANTS of God instead of SERVANTS of SIN because as Paul stated the WAGES of sin is DEATH but the GIFT of GOD is ETERNAL LIFE through who? Jesus Christ! If we are bastards then it is time to repent and turn to Jesus. If we are saints caught up in the world of sin then we need to REPENT and get rid of the nonsense and destroy the bondage of sin in our lives through Christ!
