People of Mariupol self-organize to help the injured, defend their city On 24 January Russian-backed militants shelled Eastern parts of Mariupol with Grad multiple rocket launchers. 30 civilians got killed, over 100 wounded. EMPR takes a look at how the people of Mariupol self-organize to help those affected and reinforce the city defense. Greek community of Mariupol was among the first to purchase and deliver medical supplies and hygiene items for the injured. 20 sets of bandages, syringes, iv’s as well as covers and hygiene items reached the two city hospitals – no.1 and no. 4 that are treating the injured. Mariupol’s self-defense (non-militarized forces) brought transparent construction film and helped people cover the broken windows affected by shelling.
