Per Reno County Emergency Management: Due to the rain that has been received in the area since Sunday night and Monday morning, Cow Creek, The Little Arkansas River, the Arkansas River and the Ninnescah River are all rising. We have already started reclosing roads along the Little Arkansas River that have only been open a few days. There have also been a couple roads to the West of Hutchinson that have been closed in some low lying areas from water that has risen in streams and sloughs that come from the Arkansas River. Please check our website shown below for the most up to date listing. In the Cow Creek area, there is particular concern due to the amount of water that is in the creek now, along with the water that is coming from the North out of Rice County. The creek has risen even higher than it did last week up in Rice County and that water is headed our way. If you are still staying in the area around Cow Creek, and had concerns of whether you should evacuate or not, you should closely look at what the creek is doing and carefully weigh your options. Please continue to look at our website; renogov.org/emergency and look under the Emergency Road Closures to see the most up to date information on that. We will be putting a damage assessment form on our website for citizens to enter flood damage information so that we can provide this data to the state in hopes we may be able to get some help for individuals. We can’t promise anything on this; it all depends on meeting the thresholds.
