Perryhill Plants July 2013 The weather is much wetter than usual so plants will be forming new root systems rapidly and planting now will give them a chance to become established well before next winter. Make the most of this opportunity and plant now! We have a superb stock of shrubs, perennials and the roses are coming into flower. The scent is always fabulous and next week, as the sun gets warmer, it will be a great time to come in and look at the spectacular show. Roses Many English shrub roses can be trained as climbers, as well as growing as shrubs, and many are scented. ‘Graham Thomas’, ‘Gertrude Jekyll’ and ‘The Pilgrim’ are all suitable. A Whiter Shade of Pale Eyes for You Erfurt Our range of roses is enormous and those above are three outstanding varieties. ‘A Whiter Shade of Pale’ is a dark foliaged Hybrid Tea. ‘Eyes for You’ is a floribunda, an unusual flower looking like a cross between a tree Paeonia and Papaver. ‘Erfurt’ is a member of the Hybrid Musk group and is very free flowering with flowers that look as if they are lit from the centre. With over 450 varieties in stock we can offer a very wide selection from small patio roses such as ‘Sweet Dream’ to the largest rambler filipes ‘Kiftsgate’. Most of our shrub roses and climbers are grown in 8 litre polybags, often twice the size of the pots used by many nurseries, with special compost with added loam, they grow rapidly and many are already quite sizeable. It is an ideal time to see and smell them! Perennials The herbaceous plant section is bulging with a selection unrivalled locally, mostly grown on site and in peat free, sustainable, compost. Paeonia are just coming into flower and the Iris sibirica and germanica varieties are in flower now. Iris sibirica suit moist soils in part shade or sun whereas germanica types need full sun and a well drained soil. We have a new crop coming on of the Chelsea ‘Plant of the Century’ Geranium ‘Rozanne’ which is a must for every garden.
