Pont de Chambon (Corrèze department, France) * This graceful, single-lane suspension bridge crosses the Dordogne Rivière abour 32 kilometers upriver from Argentat. It is the only public crossing of the Dordogne in 30 kilometers. The bridge is 37 kilometers from Argentat cycling north of the river. The drop through the gorge to the river tested my brakes as I descended up to 12% with many switchbacks for a 300-meter drop in altitude. A few photos, a deep breath and the climb out — 295 meters in 5.8 kilometers with 5% to 9% ascents (easier than going back the way I came. The upper Dordogne Gorges are prestine. A really great and peaceful place to cycle and hike. Much of in rural France is old. On the Argentat & Marcillac-la-Croisille Route, Dordogne Valleys and Villages – A Bicycle Your France Guidebook
