Postmortem -It has been a week since the Primary Election of 2014. I have had time to reflect on the result of the election in which I garnered 48% of the vote for County Chair of the Republican Party of Atascosa County. While disappointing, and in some respects, unsettling, I am encouraged by the support I had. I conclude from the outpouring of my support the following: 1) Voters want to be more knowledgeable. They do not have access to information regarding our political structure or our election system. Whether this is purposeful is a matter of opinion. The fact is that almost every conversation I had with voters revealed that they want more information about our government. 2) Voters want change. The Republican Party of Atascosa County has been put on notice that the voters want the Party to be more responsive to the needs of the citizens, including a return to grassroots involvement. People want more public meetings and more opportunity to participate. 3) Voters want fresh leadership. New chairmen were elected this past primary in several precincts and new volunteers stepped up to assist in varying capacities. These new leaders will take over in June. I suspect we will see many changes in the Party when this happens. I hope you all stay involved. Keep your elected officials accountable. Find out who your precinct chairs are (ask me! ) and see where you can plug in to help them improve the Party. It is true that we get the government we deserve. Keep asking questions! Thank you Atascosa County - this is not the end; this is the beginning!
