Prayer is to be accompanied by faith… reliance on the merits of Jesus and the power of God to answer according to His will. 1. Faith is a trust, reliance, or rest on someone or something outside of yourself. It is a trust in the veracity and efficacy of the object of faith. Faith is an acknowledgment of a truth. Hebrews 11:1, “Now faith is the reality of the hoped for, the conviction of matters not seen.” 2. Faith is based in reality, hupostasis, which is literally “what stands beneath.” It describes the underlying reality of a person; the real person. Christ is the hupostasis of God, Hebrews 1:3, 3 And He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation [hupostasis] of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power. When He had made purification of sins, He sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high, By Comparison: 1. Grumbling is the antithesis of faith, Psalm 106:24-25, 24 Then they despised the pleasant land; They did not believe in His word, 25 But grumbled in their tents; They did not listen to the voice of the Lord. 2. Fear is the antithesis of faith, Mark 4:40, 40 And He said to them, “Why are you afraid? How is it that you have no faith?” 3. Doubt is the antithesis of faith: James 1:5–6, 5 If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. 6 But let him ask in faith, with no doubting, for he who doubts is like a wave of the sea driven and tossed by the wind. #Prayer #Faith #Fear #Doubt
