President Obama sitting joke of the World. Once upon a time when I was a young recruit at Parris Island Marine Recruit Depot, there was a fellow recruit that just wasnt making the grade. He was physically fit, and bright enough but somewhere along the line just before 2nd phase and the Rifle Range a screw came loose in this poor fellows Brain Housing Group. As a result of this young mans affliction the Senior Drill Instructor promoted him to Platoon Guide. At first we chuckled to ourselves but after about an hour we no longer found this little joke funny. We marched around that Squad Bay for hours that night, Column Left March, Column Right March, To the Rear March, To the Rear March. Our new Guide proudly marching along out of step with that rolled up Guidon Stick slung over his shoulder like a fishing pole. The next morning at Reveille, he was gone. After morning chow we visited the Rose Garden, a shallow patch of sand between the barracks, for thirty minutes of Incentive PT. On your faces! On your feet! On your backs! On your Faces I cant here you Ladies! Later that morning we failed our Uniform Inspection. Seems there was sand in our Uniforms. So, we dug in the Rose Garden some more. Though it seemed as if the Joke had been played on that poor fellow with a lost screw. The brunt of the Joke was the born by the Platoon which suffered not under the Guide who was but a unwitting participant but under those in power who chose to make fools out of us all.
