Protection of Pakistan Bill Passed? How can it protect Pakistan when it brutally violates its citizens constitutional and human rights? What a shame! Until yesterday the citizens were at the mercy of non-state actors/terrorists; From tomorrow the citizens rights, liberties would be at the mercy of unaccountable/legally covered state actors. This Bill would be a shock for those of us who wished and fought for democracy because under it a rule not a misrule of law, prevails. But what to do with these myopic ruling and state elites, who just refuse to allow the citizens to enjoy even a modicum of democratic rights and thus be committed to defending democracy. These custodians of our state just refuse to learn a simple lesson from the tortious historical and evolutionary phases of modern state that only such states are stable and peaceable where citizens rights and liberties get the priority over the liberty of state operatives to act as they like with the citizens, using the garb of (mis)rules passed by an imprudent parliamentary majority !! Remember, the Rowlett Act in British India, the Apartheid in South Africa, and segregation in USA also had the so-called legislative sanctity but they never received the approval as laws in the true sense of the word. Instead they were called draconian instruments and blots on the face of state and society, This so-called Protection Bill, would also be nothing but an ugly smudge on the face of our constitutional dispensation And History would remember it as nothing but a scandalous addition to a plethora of existing/ past diabolical laws!! And its creators, NS/ PML- N, would pay the cost of this colossal folly by earning more ire and antipathy in the country, and particularly in Baluchistan and Sindh where the people are already dreading the lethal reach of this Bill. They know that from now on no missing person will be missing even if he is missing because the Bill will make it legally not missing What an innovation! Who says we lack ingenuity and enterprise , so what if the innovation is for the wrong reasons, and for the consumption of a realm where oppression and denial of rights would be a norm, not an exception!! May God save us all!!
