► Question: We are told to obey the Lords commandments. Does this specifically mean we have to keep the Sabbath? ► My response: Specifically, no, we do not keep the Sabbath as a legal regulation; however, the Sabbath is everlasting, predating the Law of Moses by thousands of years (Gen. 2:1-3). Rather than keeping it, we honor it, and recognize that Jesus will observe it even during the Millennium (Isa. 66:23). In fact, the Original Sabbath [7th Day of every week; Acts 16:13] is a TYPE of the Lords Day Sabbath [the First Day of every week, 1 Cor.16:2; the Day of Resurrection, which begins our weeks, Jn. 20:19]. We begin the week by resting in Christ, seated with Him in the heavenlies (Eph. 2:6) and we end the week with rejoicing in His eternal sufficiency. Of all people, Christians should be the ones who should care the most about guarding the Sabbath. You might say that the Creator has given us, in His love and by His grace, two Sabbaths out of every seven days. The Last Day is a day of rest and personal worship. The First Day is a day of recreation and public worship. As Jesus said, man was not made for the Sabbath, but the sabbath was made *for* man, and Jesus himself is the LORD of the Sabbath (Mk. 2:27-28). This changes everything. P.S. It seems to me that the majority of Christians today do not understand the Creators Sabbath or the Redeemers Sabbath at all; or the sabbath principle. Half the people simply ignore it altogether [claiming its legalistic], and the other half make it a slavish requirement for true faith [proving our salvation]. JESUS Himself is our Sabbath Rest, He fulfills *all* the Types & Symbols of the Old Covenant and the Laws of Moses; and it is no sin to set aside one day a week to actually rest in Him and study His Word; or to set aside one day a week to serve Him in public ministry. But it has *nothing* to do with our salvation, or even our sanctification. The Apostle Paul understood this: There remaineth therefore a sabbath to the people of God (Heb. 4:9). -- Randy 3/25/14
