RAD Advantages 80a review (non-slid) Specs: 74mm tall/ 58mm - TopicsExpress

RAD Advantages 80a review (non-slid) Specs: 74mm tall/ 58mm contact patch Super sharp lips on the non-graphic side, less sharp lips graphic side. Just a tiny fact. The conditions: So just as another reminder, I have NOT slidden these and dont really plan too so I retain maximum grip. I have taken them down a decent enough local run that has one major acceleration point that can top at 25 mph and at that point of the run there is a rough patch on either side of the road dividers. And after that point there is a run out that slopes down to the flat neighborhoods. I rode these with a sector 9 arrow with caliber trucks (1/8 soft riser) rad 92a and venom 86a SHR bushings, and zealous bearings. The wheel: The wheel feels great, it feels like a bulky tank wheel but it feels fairly agile. The urethane feels cushy-ish but the crown core makes it kinda ridged and reboundy. When you are rolling it feels super smooth and encourages you to go faster, thanks to the crown core. When I go through the slight rough patch on the hill I notice a slight vibration but I still focus on the road ahead. Seriously if you want a great downhill wheel that has great feel, acceleration, and grip, the Rad Advantage will not disappoint. And I even here they are great for freeriding. The Crown Core: If you look down the reviews page you will find my review of the Rad Release and I talk about how the core affects the fast sliding wheel. Here I will talk about how it affects the downhill go get speed wheel. Fast. It really just makes you want to go faster. And even when you get to your fastest you just want to go faster cuz the core just encourages speed. Also the crown core KEEPS momentum rolling. On the runout if I keep my full tuck I can keep my momentum, this core does not want the wheel to stop rolling. If you havent seen the crown core go look up an image right now and find a wheel that is cut in half and u can see the three point and two valleys, it TRUELY supports the wheel and being made out of GLASS infused POLYURETHANE it really doesnt deform under weight. When Louis and James tell you about the crown core on YouTube, they are not sugar coating it. This core is made to support the wheel and go fast. I personally have found I like large cores from riding the swifts and 66mm abec free rides, but traditional plastic cores do not compare to the crown core. Other companies have made quality cores like road riders shred mags, the new kegel core, and etc. But I think the way the crown core actually grabs the urethane and the materials it is made out of sets it apart and makes the wheel great. Other DH wheels Ive tried: Ive ridden Retro bigzigs 75mm 80a before and I liked them at the time. They had a good roll speed, good acceleration, but they didnt have the kind of vibration dampening feel that Advantages do. Plus the advantages have a large core and are a millimeter smaller making it just that much harder to get wheel bite. Things Ive heard: I have not skid these but other people have. Ive heard they retain grip even after being broken in and slide nicely. Conclusion: If you want a DH wheel that has good feel, acceleration, roll speed, and fits under most of your boards, get the Advantage. You wont be disappointed.
